Convert FITS to PJPEG
Convert FITS images to PJPEG format, edit and optimize images online and free.
The FITS (Flexible Image Transport System) file extension is widely utilized in the field of astronomy for storing, transmitting, and manipulating scientific data and images. Originating in the late 1970s, FITS was developed by NASA and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to standardize the format for astronomical data. Its primary use is to archive astronomical images, spectral data, and other multidimensional data arrays, enabling efficient data interchange among scientists and astronomers. FITS files are known for their ability to store metadata and large datasets, making them essential for detailed scientific analysis and long-term preservation in research environments.
The PJPEG (Progressive JPEG) is a file extension for images that enhances the standard JPEG format by displaying images in successive waves of increasing detail, improving the user experience during slow network conditions. The JPEG stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group", the organization that developed the standard in 1992. PJPEG is particularly useful for web applications, as it allows images to appear more quickly and progressively refine in quality, rather than loading from top to bottom like baseline JPEGs.
Drag and drop or manually select the FITS file from your system.
Adjust FITS to PJPEG settings with tools, then press Convert.
Download your PJPEG image once the conversion process is complete.
Rotate FITS to right (90° clockwise), to left (90° counter-clockwise), 180°, and convert it to PJPEG.
Flip FITS vertically and/or horizontally (flop), and convert it to PJPEG.
Convert FITS to PJPEG and change the PJPEG quality by adjusting the JPEG compression level.
The Vertopal CLI ensures reliable conversion of FITS image into PJPEG image formats.
cd into the FITS file directory or provide the path.
