HEIC is used natively in Apple iOS and macOS devices and each photo takes up about half the space of an equivalent quality JPEG file.
Flexible Image Transport System, abbreviated FITS, is an open standard designed for scientific (especially astronomical) data acquisition. FITS format is the most used digital file format in astronomy.
