MP stands for Multiplan, associated with Microsoft Multiplan, an early spreadsheet program. Introduced in 1982, Microsoft Multiplan was designed for CP/M, MS-DOS, and other operating systems. The MP file extension was primarily used to store spreadsheet data. Despite its initial popularity, Multiplan was eventually overshadowed by Microsoft Excel. The OTS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet Template) file extension, maintained by the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS), is used to create spreadsheet templates with predefined styles and formatting in Apache OpenOffice Calc. Introduced in 2005, OTS files facilitate the creation of consistent and reusable templates for tasks like budget planning and invoicing. These files are XML-based, compressed as ZIP archives, and compatible with various open-source spreadsheet applications.
