MP is the native format used by Multiplan, a spreadsheet program developed by Microsoft in 1982. Despite the release of Microsoft Chart as a graphics companion program, Multiplan was outsold by Lotus 1-2-3 and eventually replaced by Microsoft Excel. SLK is a file format for Symbolic Link (SYLK) created by Microsoft to transfer data between spreadsheets and databases. It contains text separated by semi-colons specifying cell row, column, formatting, and content. SLK files are stored in ANSI text format.
