SYLK and SLK both stand for an identical format. SYLK is a file format for Symbolic Link developed by Microsoft to facilitate the transfer of data between spreadsheet programs and other databases. SYLK files contain lines of text separated by semi-colons that specify the cell row, column, formatting, and content. These files are stored in an ANSI text format.
The FODS file format is used by programs such as OpenOffice.org and LibreOffice to store spreadsheets as flat XML files. Unlike the ODS file format, FODS files store data in a simple text format with XML code that can be read in a text editor.
