An XLK file is a backup file created by Microsoft Excel. It contains a backup copy of an Excel spreadsheet and is used to recover data if the original file is lost or corrupted.
Excel automatically creates an XLK backup when you save a file with the "Always create backup" option selected. To enable this option, select Tools > General Options... in the Save As dialog when saving a file.
XLK files can be opened with Microsoft Excel in Windows and macOS. After opening the file in Excel, you can save it in a different format such as XLSX or XLS(./xls). You can also open XLK files with OpenOffice Calc, but the formatting may not be fully supported.
