The PNM which stands for Portable Any-Map is an abstraction of Netpbm PBM, PGM, and PPM formats, designed by Jef Poskanzer in the 1980s. It was designed to easily exchange binary images between different platforms.

It is an open standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and supports interactivity, animation, and rich graphical capabilities. SVG images can be compressed, scaled without loss of quality, and easily integrated with other web standards.
