Convert WKS to FODS

The WKS file extension represents Microsoft Works Spreadsheet, a part of the Microsoft Works suite. First introduced in 1987, Works was designed as a streamlined, affordable alternative to Microsoft Office. The WKS format specifically handled spreadsheet data, facilitating tasks such as budgeting, data analysis, and inventory management. Despite its simplicity, it enabled users to perform essential functions like data sorting, basic calculations, and charting. Over time, Microsoft phased out Works in favor of the more advanced Office suite, yet WKS files remain a legacy format, occasionally encountered in archival data and older systems.

The FODS (OpenDocument Flat XML Spreadsheet) file extension, developed by Oracle, is used for storing spreadsheet data in a plain XML format, making it more human-readable and easier to generate automatically without a spreadsheet editor. Unlike the more common ODS format, which uses a ZIP container, FODS files are not supported by Microsoft Excel but can be opened with OpenOffice Calc. This format was introduced as part of the ODF 1.2 specifications by OASIS.
